Mood Board: Cigarettes and Coffee

I see a lot of homes, and with that, so many different interior styles. I can appreciate many styles even if they aren’t quite my cup of tea. There’s nothing I love more than seeing a style that perfectly fits the owner of the space. It’s a thrill when I find a décor item in a shop that directly reminds me of a friend or client. Really, is there anything better than something that perfectly reminds you of someone you really love/like?

Not everyone is gifted with clearly understanding their style or direction of a space, especially if it’s a new home. It can be especially difficult when you appreciate many different styles and vibes. My friend and interior designer, Emily Lauren, of Emily Lauren Interiors recommended creating a mood board for my space which helps focus on a clear direction and plan for the space.

The first place I wanted to create a mood board was for my new sitting room. I already knew I wanted to have a rad sofa as a focal piece, as well as, directing the attention to the eye-catching curved limestone fireplace. While Emily Lauren is inspired by sculptures and art, I was instantly inspired by the song, ‘Cigarettes and Coffee’ by Otis Redding. Of which I partake in neither of those things, but even if you haven’t heard the song, you could feel the vibe, right? Like a real loungey hangout place, an area to have good conversations with friends, a place for casual slow mornings with your coffee (or tea for me!), and always soft vibey background music with my favorite candle or incense burning. You feel it, don’t you?

I created the final vibe pretty easily on Canva; pulling pictures from my Pinterest board and a few saved Instagram photos. The most helpful part was Canva Color Palette to pull out the colors I want to use in the space. It’s a start and I can’t wait to see it come together. I hope you can come over sometime and really feel this vibe in real life.

Would love to hear if you’ve ever created a mood board for your space!
